On November 15, 2007 Cyclone Sidr struck southern Bangladesh with devastating power. Its impact struck the country's economy a severe blow: more than 700,000 acres of farmland were completely destroyed and about 1.8 million tonnes of rice, in the fields and ready for harvesting, was lost.
